The Board of Trustees for the Village of Hawthorn Woods proudly announces the adoption of The Hawthorn Woods Sustainability Plan, a strategic roadmap that will deliver necessary progress for audit and implementation of sustainable principles over the next decade. Through collaboration from local to national organizations and partners, this plan was the culmination of goals and strategies designed specifically for the eco-conscious Hawthorn Woods community. Through this plan, Hawthorn Woods seeks to uphold and maintain its standing as one of the most sustainable communities in Northern Illinois, the Midwest, and in the United States. The Hawthorn Woods Sustainability Plan was adopted by the Board of Trustees during their monthly board meeting on October 26, 2020.
The Village of Hawthorn Woods designed the Hawthorn Woods Sustainability Plan to act as a guiding document for the community to advance its current programs and foster new initiatives that will balance the needs of the future with today’s unique Rural by Design lifestyle.
“As a proven leader in sustainability, The Village of Hawthorn Woods has memorialized its hundreds of actions and initiatives into one document to lead sustainability efforts into the next decade to come,” said Trustee Steve Riess, the Trustee Liaison for the Sustainability Committee for the Village. Adding her comments, Robin Grooms, the Sustainability Coordinator for Hawthorn Woods remarked, “This plan will now be an excellent resource for staff, community members, and other Chicagoland organizations to generate ambitious sustainable action over the next ten years.” Robin is the architect of the document, and is an AmeriCorps Member affiliated with The Village of Hawthorn Woods on assignment through the Greenest Region Council of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus.
