Save a Star Drug Disposal Program

Save a Star Drug Disposal Program

Save A Star Drug Awareness Foundation is a registered 501(c)3 public charity. A major goal of this program is to dispose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs and medications in an environmentally safe way, but most importantly, to keep drugs out of the hands of young children and those who might use drugs for recreational purposes.

How This Program Works

Collection boxes are installed only in secure law enforcement facilities for the consumer disposal and subsequent incineration of medications. These boxes are provided at no charge to participating communities, and are sponsored through Save A Star. The boxes are shipped with labels affixed that describe acceptable and nonacceptable drugs for disposal. Lake County law enforcement partners with SWALCO to properly dispose of collected medicines, prescriptions and supplements. A Save A Star collection box is available in the Hawthorn Woods Police Station lobby. We encourage you to bring your unwanted medicines, prescriptions and supplements to this drop off location.
