Mission Statement

     The Police officers of the Hawthorn Woods Police Department are neither separate nor distinct from the people. We draw authority from the will and consent of the community and, therefore are their instrument to achieve and maintain order. Our efforts are founded on principles of public service with ultimate responsibility to the citizens we serve.
     It is the mission of the officers of the Hawthorn Woods Police Department to work together with the citizens of Hawthorn Woods through effective and meaningful communication. Through education and information, we can solve common problems and achieve common goals to ensure a safe community in which to live and work.
     The men and women of the Hawthorn Woods Police Department hold ourselves to a higher standard to provide safe, knowledgeable, and professional service to protect those in danger, assist those in need, and those who cannot care for themselves. We enforce the laws we are sworn to uphold with fair and impartial treatment of all persons at all times.
     It is also the mission of the Hawthorn Woods Police Department to provide equal opportunity for employment to the highest quality law enforcement officers. Officers that are well trained and dedicated to each other, and the community which they serve. We strive to achieve this by providing a safe, quality work environment. Through open and regular communication with each other, we will promote employee participation, encourage professional growth and development, and accept only for the best from one another.
     Ordinance 5-4-2 in part states:
     The badge we carry is a symbol of public trust. We are committed at all times to maintain this trust with honest, moral, ethical behavior that is above reproach.
