9-1-1
The Enhanced 911 system is an enhancement to 9-1-1 services which provides 24 hour call routing to specific Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) including the originating telephone number and address.
The Lake Zurich 9-1-1 Center is a PSAP which provides access to the 9-1-1 emergency telephone system for residents of Hawthorn Woods, Lake Zurich, and Kildeer, including those who are hearing or speech impaired through the use of the Telecommunications Device for the Disabled (TDD). This device allows a person whose speech or hearing is impaired to communicate with the PSAP through the use of a keyboard. The Lake Zurich 9-1-1 Center can also provide emergency medical instructions such as how to perform CPR, the Heimlich Maneuver or other emergency treatments through the TDD.
Not all 9-1-1 calls from Hawthorn Woods Residents are routed through the Lake Zurich 9-1-1 Center. The Lake County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) also receives 9-1-1 calls from cellular telephones and those located outside the Lake Zurich Fire Protection District. Once the call is determined to require police assistance and is within the corporate limits of Hawthorn Woods, it is transferred electronically to the Lake Zurich Communication Center for service.
Telephone contact with the Lake Zurich 9-1-1 Center can be initiated by using 9-1-1 or, in non-emergency situations, the seven digit telephone number 438-2349.
