List of Building
Materials
The following materials are approved for the exterior use in
the construction of buildings and accessory structures in the Village of
Hawthorn Woods:
- Face
Brick (min. 4” thickness)
- Stone
(min. 4” thickness)
- Cedar
or equivalent wood sidings
- Stucco
- Architectural
concrete block (Samples must be submitted for approval)
- Aluminum
or vinyl materials for soffits and fascia boards
- Standing
seam metal roofing and canopy covers in earth-tone colors (Samples must be
submitted for approval)
- Wood
shake shingles
- Architectural
grade Asphalt shingles (min. 340#)
- Individual
glass windows in wood or aluminum frames (glass curtain walls are not
included in this category)
- Glass
block for accenting purposes (glass block walls are not included in this
category)
- Limestone
- Fiber-cement
siding
- Fiber-cement
material for trim, freeze boards, soffits and facia boards, provided that
corner trim must be a minimum of 5-1/4” wide and siding cannot protrude
beyond the face of the corner trim board
Samples of all materials to be
used, in the color to be used, must be submitted to the Architectural Review
Commission. The Commission shall not
issue any recommendations to the Board of Trustees until it has reviewed such
samples.
Without in any way limiting the prohibition on the exterior
use of any materials not included in the above list for construction of
buildings and accessory structures in the Village of Hawthorn Woods, the
Village of Hawthorn Woods has considered and expressly rejected the inclusion
of the following materials in the List of Approved Materials set forth above:
- Concrete
block
- Precast
concrete wall panels
- Aggregate
matrix panels
- Vinyl,
or aluminum, steel or other metal, sidings, cornerboards or trim
- Plywood
or masonite sidings
- Panel
brick or thinset stone veneers
- Curtain
wall construction
- Reflective
glass
- Glazed
wall tile or glazed masonry units
- Bright
wall flashings and copings
- Metal
wall panels
- Exposed
structural framing and miscellaneous metals
- Staccato
boards
- Fiber-cement
panel sheeting material
