Consideration Of A Request For Approval Of Clubhouse,
Maintenance Building, Gatehouse and Comfort Station Elevations - Hawthorn Woods
Country Club
Administrator Benford stated the preliminary landscape plan for the Hawthorn Woods Country Club was approved by the Board of Trustees on May 27, 2003. The preliminary landscape plan included elevations of the gatehouse and entrance monuments for the project. The gatehouse and entry elevations included details such as slate shingles, stone walls, bronze medallions and unique architectural details. The plans submitted for review at this time do not conform to the elevations and descriptions of these facilities provided by Toll Bros. during the public hearings. The blue slate roofs have been replaced with asphalt shingles, the stone exteriors have been replaced with brick and cedar siding, and the roof pitches do not conform to the requirements of the AO District.
Andy Stern, Toll Bros., introduced Peter Whitman and Mark Kurensky the architect and landscape architects on this project. Mr. Whitman gave a PowerPoint presentation on the architectural design process for the buildings. Mr. Whitman stated that the design theme for the project is a “gentleman’s farm”. Examples of the architecture include Middlefork Farms in Lake Forest, IL.
Mr. Whitman described the general locations of the clubhouse and the various elements of the clubhouse.
Commissioner Thomas asked about the parking count and whether the parking was adequate for the facility.
Mr. Whitman stated that the site plan shows 230 parking spaces.
Commissioner Thomas stated that the parking spaces are extremely far from the main building.
Mr. Whitman stated that the employees would park furthest from the building, reserving the closer spaces for the patrons.
Administrator Benford listed several departures from Village Code including the use of split face block, roof pitch, roofing materials and landscape.
Chairman Schildkraut stated that the drawings presented do not conform with the elevations included in the preliminary landscape plan. Therefore, the applicant should resubmit drawings that match the theme presented in the landscape plan and the annexation public hearings.
Motion by Thomas, second by Kaiser to continue to the March 3, 2004 Architectural Review Commission meeting.
On a voice vote the motion carried
unanimously.
